Ironmongery Information

A hinged door opens in one of four ways shown on the diagrams below. The number of the opening or the hand of the lock should be stated except for those listed below which suit all ways of door opening:
• Cylinder and other rim locks
• Cylinder rim deadlocks
• Double hand rim locks
• Ordinary mortice locks and latches with plain forends
• Mortice locks with rebated forends
• Straight cupboard locks

Striking plates instead of staples are supplied for rim locks and latches if ordered for doors opening outwards as number
3 or 4.

Hands of Rebated Locks

Pairs of folding doors with rebated edges require rebated mortice locks or latches.
The standard width of rebate (R) is 13mm unless otherwise ordered.

Mortice locks with reversible rebated forends and striking plates suit all ways of opening and rebate shown on diagrams

5 - 8 below. For other patterns and all locksets quote the number of the opening or the hand as given below.
